What Is a CNC Router

A CNC router is a numerically controlled machine that machines materials with a rotating tool (spindle), performing cutting, engraving, milling and 3D carving with high accuracy and repeatability. It is widely used in woodworking, furniture making, advertising, construction and workshop production, as it combines speed, accuracy and flexibility through CAD/CAM software.

Materials & cutting thicknesses

  • Wood: up to 60mm solid wood, 50mm MDF, 25mm plywood.
  • Aluminum: up to 30mm with slow feed + mist cooling.
  • Plexiglass / Acrylic: up to 20mm.
  • Plastic (POM, PVC, PE): up to 50mm.

Desktop or Industrial — which to choose

The desktop models (4030, 6040, 6090) are ideal for prototyping, design studios and small production runs. The hybrid / industrial models (1200×1200 to 2100×4000) are aimed at workshop and industrial production of furniture, panels and large structures, with heavy-duty construction and large working areas.

Spindle, motion & vacuum table

  • Spindle: air-cooled or water-cooled, depending on the material and application.
  • Motion: servo motors & rack-and-pinion for accuracy and speed over large areas.
  • Vacuum table: on hybrid/industrial models, for secure sheet hold-down without clamps.
  • Software: CAD/CAM compatible for design and production.

CNC Nesting: panel cutting on full sheets

In the Greek market, nesting CNC is the term for a CNC router that cuts full sheets (2050×2800 or 1220×2440 mm) of MDF, melamine and plywood. Nesting software places the parts of a furniture piece on the sheet automatically for maximum material yield and minimal waste, while the vacuum table holds the parts firmly without clamps. Our CNC Router 1325, 1530 and 2040 models are nesting CNCs with automatic tool change (ATC), 6–9 kW spindle and vacuum table — ideal for furniture makers, kitchens, wardrobes and industrial panel production at a low cost per part.

Applications

Furniture making & woodworking, MDF & panel cutting, signage & 3D lettering, decorative items & 3D carving, aluminum & plexiglass machining, prototyping and industrial production. It covers everything from small design studios to large furniture production plants.

CNC Router or Laser?

A CNC router machines with a cutting tool (end mill) and is ideal for volume, depth and 3D carving in wood & aluminum. For laser cutting/engraving of non-metals, see our CO₂ laser cutting & engraving machines, and for metal cutting our metal cutting fiber lasers.

Operating cost & maintenance

Operating costs include power consumption, tooling (cutters) and basic maintenance of the spindle & guides. With proper maintenance and quality tooling, a CNC router delivers reliable long-term production at a low cost per piece.

CAD/CAM software & workflow

A CNC router works with CAD/CAM software where you design or import the file, define toolpaths, depth and speeds, and send the job to the machine. With the right settings and tooling, production is fast, consistent and repeatable — from a single one-off part to a mass-production run with nesting. Choosing the right cutter for each material plays a decisive role in quality and speed.

Accuracy & machining quality

Thanks to servo motors, rack-and-pinion drives and heavy-duty construction, the industrial models maintain high accuracy even over large areas and during long hours of continuous operation. The result is clean edges, consistent depth and excellent repeatability on every part.

Tooling & consumables

Cut quality depends on using the right cutters for each material (wood, aluminum, acrylic). We stock tooling and consumables and advise you on the right combination of tool, speed and depth, so you get a clean result and long tool life.

Space & installation

The space required depends on the size: from a bench for the desktop models to a dedicated area for the 2100×4000. A stable floor, a dust extraction system and a proper power supply are required. We handle installation and operator training so you can start production right away.

Dust extraction, safety & maintenance

Machining wood and MDF generates dust, so CNC routers are paired with a dust extraction system (dust collector) that keeps the workspace clean and protects the electronics, the spindle and the guides. A clean working environment ensures consistent quality and a longer machine life. With basic preventive maintenance — lubricating the guides, checking the spindle and cleaning — a CNC router maintains high performance and accuracy for years of reliable industrial production.
